Book Release by Group Officer and Regional Managing Partner for Japan, Masahiro Matsuoka

JAPAN, JUNE 2025 – We are pleased to announce the publication of a new book authored by Masa Matsuoka, Group Officer, Managing Partner, and Japan Regional Manager at YCP. 

Titled “The Right Way to Diversify – Unlocking the Conglomerate Premium,” the book will be released by Nikkei BP / Nikkei Publishing on June 27, 2025.

In this publication, Matsuoka examines the historical and empirical reasons behind the cautious stance many Japanese companies have taken toward diversification and new business development, often prioritizing “selection and concentration” since the economic bubble burst. Drawing on case studies of GAFA and leading conglomerates in the U.S. and Europe, he proposes a global-standard approach to “smart diversification” as a strategic growth model. 

Matsuoka joined YCP in January 2025. Prior to his time in the firm, he served as Co-President of Frontier Management Inc. for 17 years, providing business revitalization and strategic advisory services. He was also deeply involved in the turnaround of companies such as Kanebo and Daiei through his work at the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan (IRCJ). 

Leveraging his diverse experience across finance, consulting, and investment, Matsuoka offers practical and concrete insights into the role of diversification in corporate growth.
